Two people are in custody after being accused of swimming through the Hackensack River to steal items from the U.S.S. Ling.
Laura Palmese and Jon Stevens were arrested on burglary and theft charges.
Police say the pair parked at a diner and swam to the World War II-era submarine.
They removed a lantern and a Medical Corps Lieutenant Shoulder lapel.
This is the latest string of vandalism to happen at the U.S.S. Ling.
Back in August, someone opened the hatches and let several feet of water into the sub.
Also, four plaques from a World War II memorial were also stolen.
Police have not said if these two incidents are connected, but both happened around the same time.
