Point Pleasant gym brings weights outside as coronavirus keeps facilities closed

Anytime Fitness in Point Pleasant, like many other indoor fitness facilities in New Jersey, has been closed for four months in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Anytime Fitness in Point Pleasant, like many other indoor fitness facilities in New Jersey, has been closed for four months in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Gym owner Janice Lauria says she has lost 95% of her income since they were shut down.
"It has changed my life,” she told News 12. “I never would've thought almost 13 years into the gym business that I couldn't afford to buy a box of paper towels."
With the help from some of her members, she is moving more than 1,000 pounds of weights and equipment into the business' parking lot every morning – giving people a chance to work out.
Lauria says she stands outside all day to make sure people are following social distancing rules and sanitizing equipment. 
"I'm not doing this to make money. I'm doing this because these people need to work out. This isn't going to put food on my table,” says Lauria.
Patrons told News 12 that not having the gym open has negatively affected their health, especially first responders who rely on a certain level of fitness for their job. Tony Andretta, 64, a volunteer firefighter in Point Pleasant Beach, says he’s requested that state leaders reopen gyms by appointment and with capacity limits.
"Everybody cares about their health, everybody knows this pandemic is dangerous. Everybody will do what they can to prevent themselves from getting it or spreading it to somebody else," he says.
