A suspicious device that prompted evacuations in West Orange Monday turned out to be pieces of wood with an alarm clock, police say.
According to officials, the six pieces of wood tied together were designed to look like sticks of dynamite attached to an alarm clock.
The owner of Gas Arc found the device on a pile of garbage next to Max Daniels Bar, across from the public works department. Police say the owner of the bar was evicted Sunday, but won?t say if he is a suspect.
Officials evacuated an area of about a quarter-mile from the site, including the Edison National Historic Site. Lakeside Avenue was also closed until Essex County's Bomb Squad destroyed the device.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
