Flood-prone Manasquan prepares for incoming nor'easter

Towns along the Jersey Shore are in full preparation mode this evening for flooding from the ocean and the back bays due to the incoming nor'easter.

Manasquan is no stranger to flooding, where it only takes a full moon and some onshore winds to push water onto the streets. The borough has two high water trucks ready for the storm, as leaders and emergency management coordinators track the forecast models and predicted tide levels closely.
In towns like Manasquan, the difference between a minor flood event and major flood comes down to just about two feet.

“In Manasquan, in minor flooding, we tend to lose a car or two, so we're asking people to check the vehicle status and find a safe place for the vehicles. At least minor flooding is going to be a given, especially in the lowest lying streets,” said Manasquan Mayor Michael Mangan.
“The back of the high-water trucks has everything we need. There is a Stokes basket for first aid rescues. We have fire pumps and a fire hose. Our firemen are outfitted with SCBAs in case you have to fight a fire, so these trucks can get us anywhere we need to,” said Manasquan Deputy OEM coordinator Detective Lt. John Ringo.
The mayor says the highest tides for Manasquan are expected Friday night, Saturday morning and Saturday night.
