Power restored after sinkholes form in parts of Phillipsburg

There is some progress in Phillipsburg regarding sinkhole repairs in the township.
Officials confirmed that power has been restored to the area after the sinkholes appeared.
But the officials say that the street repairs could take weeks. One sinkhole was large enough to swallow a dump truck on Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Lewis and Summit streets.
That dump truck was part of the repair effort after depressions started to form in the street on Monday.
Residents told News that they had no power or water. A few homes had to be evacuated as a precaution.
“We are on a huge limestone deposit, so sinkholes aren't that unusual in this area, but for them to develop in this size and manner so quickly is concerning,” says Mayor Randy Piazza, Jr.
The mayor added that the sinkholes are centered around a water main. The cause was not immediately known.
Phillipsburg police urge residents to report any more sinkholes they notice.
