A new proposal to increase academic scores and standards for Pequannock School District students is getting mixed reviews. The proposal would require high school students to maintain a 70 percent average in order to participate in sports or extracurricular activities. Some say the tougher requirements will be frustrating for students who struggle with academics, but are talented in other areas. Others say they think the school district is on the right track. There is currently a state standard for athletes, but no requirements for non-athletic activities. The Pequannock School District superintendent was contacted by News 12 New Jersey, but was not available for an interview.
