Residents of Maryland Avenue in Paterson say they witnessed what looked like a road sinking when parts of the street collapsed Sunday morning.Authorities say the road caved in due to a break in a water main under the road. The collapse of the road led to some gas leaks according to officials. The fire department evacuated five homes as repairs were made to fix the leaks, and those families returned home after.Officials say the water main has been fixed as well. They say part of the road will be open by Monday and completion of all repairs to the street should take close to a week.
