Nearly 100 parents protested outside P.S. 107 Monday, demanding the school rehire teachers fired due to budget cuts.
Seven teachers have been laid off from the school since September because of a five percent budget cut, which affected all New York City schools, the Department of Education says.
As a result of the firings, parents say some classes have more than 30 students and teachers have been switched to different grades to fill the openings. All after-school activities, including extra academic help, have been canceled as well, parents say.
Protesters say they are drawing up a plan for the DOE to rehire staff. If teachers aren't rehired, parents say they will keep their children home from school.
