Preparation for Sunday night?s Cuban Day Parade went ahead despite earlier controversy about the parade?s route.
The parade will continue as planned and not deviate from the route it has taken in past years, despite disapproval from the mayor of one area through which it passes.
The stage and barricades for the event were put in place early Sunday. Earlier this week, a court decision was handed down saying the parade can pass through West New York despite Mayor Sal Vega?s denial of a permit.
Residents planning to attend the event said they didn?t believe there should be any controversy surrounding the yearly event. Others said that politics should be kept separate from celebratory events.
Parade CEO Emilio Del Valle said that despite the legal issues, attention surrounding this year?s event has built more interest in the parade.
Vega had previously voiced his disapproval of the event, saying it didn?t exhibit the plight of Cubans.
