Ocean County crews are making sure the community will be safe when the expected Tropical Storm Isaias reaches the area.
Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy says he is expecting heavy rains, winds and some power outages, but he does not believe any evacuations will be necessary.
He says crews are using this storm as an exercise to figure out how to prepare in the event a major hurricane hits the area while a pandemic is underway.
The pandemic has added even more issues that the crews need to be prepared for, Mastronardy says, such as managing social distancing if residents need to get to shelters.
"We've never had to have people wear masks in shelters before," he says.
Crews are also reminding residents to move cars out of low lying areas and to bring in any outdoor furniture.
