Palisades Park mayor loses Democratic primary after mom’s rant

Palisades Park Mayor James Rotundo has lost the Democratic primary for mayor to Councilman Christopher Chung.
The defeat comes just a few days after Rontundo’s mother came under fire for a social media tirade against Korean-Americans who live in Palisades Park. Chung is also Korean-American.
Dozens of residents of Palisades Park held a rally over the weekend to oppose the mayor’s mother’s comments.
After the primary last week, just 14 votes separated the two men. Provisional ballots were counted Monday.
Rontundo served as mayor of the town for 14 years and had never faced a primary opponent before.
Chung will now go on to challenge independent Anthony Sambogna in November.
