The father of a 3-month-old girl has been charged with her murder.

Peter Olmeda is being charged with murder in the death of his infant daughter Janessa. Olmeda is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation at Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus.

Police say Olmeda dropped the child and her mother off at their Palisades Park home late Saturday evening. Olmeda asked to hold the child when he grabbed her by her ankles and slammed her against the railing and threw the baby on the pavement, according to police. The child was later pronounced dead from head and brain trauma.

Witnesses tackled the 29-year-old suspect when he allegedly tried to flee the scene. Olmeda is being held on $1 million bail.
