As we said, it has been a week since the fighting in Gaza began. Israel expected to launch a ground attack. Civilians in Palestine are being warned to evacuate. Egyptian officials say the Rafah crossing will open later to let foreigners out. A Palestinian man in North Jersey is worried about his parents who were caught in the conflict in the Gaza Strip. I spoke with him by Zoom. My father is Abd Abu Radi. Uh My mother is Sabah Abu IA. Uh They're both in their sixties, late sixties. Uh uh They're currently uh trapped in the, in the Gaza Strip. Uh They, you know, they're originally from the Gaza Strip. Uh but they lived in the US since the early eighties. Um They recently went to the Gaza Strip uh to visit uh my grandmother who was very sick and uh this surprise uh situation uh conflict that happened. Uh It, it really hit us in the heart. Me and my uh my parents, my uh my sisters as well over here and um uh we were deeply, deeply afraid for them. Uh Currently, we, we are very limited communication with them through whatsapp. Uh They have been displaced about three times uh due to, uh Israeli airstrikes. Jamil says they've been in touch with the US Embassy in Jerusalem to see what more they can find out.

I spoke with him by Zoom. We're hoping for prayers from everybody, especially our fellow New Jerseyans, which my parents are as well. New Jerseyans. Proud New Jerseyans. Is this the first time that your parents have been caught up in conflict and war here in the Gaza Strip? My parents, uh this is the first time they really been caught in in this situation. They have um the past three years since my father has retired and me and my sisters have grown up. Uh They felt like they could go home if there's a home. And um they, they, they have, they have, they haven't encountered a situation like this and they have safely went into the Gaza Strip in and out uh through Egypt to see their family. So they felt like this is an opportunity for them to kind of retire um, close to their family as well as my grandmother, Jabil says they've been in touch with the US Embassy in Jerusalem to see what more they can find out.

Tonight, a young Palestinian man in North Jersey is worried about his parents in the Gaza Strip. They were checking on his sick grandmother. He told News twelve's de La Cruz that he has been in contact with the US Embassy in Jerusalem. There's no electricity. Uh, no internet. Um The only reason why I'm able to communicate with my mother is because she still has her T mobile SIM card in her phone. Um, and, and, and we're only able to communicate with her for a good minute or two on whatsapp. Um, they're, they're currently, um, uh, you know, been displaced. Um, they, they, they, the only way for them to leave the Gaza Strip is through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt and Gaza. Uh, the only issue with that it's a very, very, uh unsafe drive to get to the border crossing that we don't know if it's open or not.
