2 charged after loaded gun, large-capacity drum magazine found outside East Brunswick hotel
Police say the Studio 6 and neighboring Motel 6 have generated more than 750 police reports since the beginning of the year.

Two men are facing gun and drug charges after police say officers found a loaded handgun, a large-capacity drum magazine and about a half-pound of suspected marijuana in a vehicle outside an East Brunswick hotel.
East Brunswick police said officers approached an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Studio 6 on Route 18 around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday after observing unspecified violations.
Police called in a Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office drug-detection dog during the investigation. After the dog alerted, officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded Glock 43 handgun, the drum magazine, suspected marijuana, a digital scale and packaging materials that police said were consistent with drug distribution.
Edwin Rojas, 32, of New Brunswick, and Kevin Rodriguez, 24, of Bordentown, were arrested. Police said they face several charges, including unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm during a drug offense, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine.
Both men were taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending court proceedings.
Police said a third person in the vehicle, 21-year-old Kason Cole of Edison, was taken into custody on an outstanding Woodbridge Township warrant and turned over to Woodbridge police.
The department said the Studio 6 and Motel 6 properties have generated more than 750 police reports since Jan. 1. Police also said more than 2,500 police, fire and emergency medical resources have been dispatched to incidents at the two properties this year.
