Florham Park police officer charged with aggravated assault, stalking

A Florham Park police officer is facing aggravated assault and stalking charges after a woman told investigators he showed up at her residence after she blocked him and applied pressure to her neck, causing her to black out, according to court and police records obtained by News 12 New Jersey.
Gregory M. Dietz, 34, is charged with second-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree stalking, harassment and criminal trespass in connection with the alleged July 5 incident.
The woman told investigators she met Dietz after she began working as a Florham Park police dispatcher in June 2025, according to a probable-cause affidavit obtained through a public records request.
The affidavit says Dietz sent the woman multiple inappropriate text messages and wanted a relationship with her, while she described the two as friends. Dietz continued texting the woman and asking her out, according to investigators.
On July 5, she told him never to contact her again and blocked him through messaging, Instagram and email, according to the affidavit.
Dietz allegedly then showed up at the woman's residential building and entered even though he did not have an access card. The affidavit says he knocked on her apartment door and wanted to talk. The woman let him into the apartment because she wanted to completely end their friendship.
Once inside, Dietz allegedly tried to kiss the woman. When she turned her head away, investigators say he slapped her in the face, grabbed her with both hands and applied pressure to her neck, causing her to black out.
The affidavit says investigators observed hand marks and swelling on the woman's neck.
The affidavit says Dietz's department was made aware of the allegations and contacted Roseland police following what the document described as a "thorough investigation."
Roseland police arrested Dietz July 20 on an active warrant, according to an arrest report. The report identifies his employer as the Florham Park Police Department.
Court records show Dietz was released July 24.
Florham Park's police website continued to list Dietz as a patrol officer this week, but his current duty status is unclear.
News 12 asked Florham Park Police Chief Karl Svenningsen about Dietz's current duty status. Svenningsen did not answer the question, saying the department could not comment because of an ongoing investigation and referring inquiries to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
A spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said it could "neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation."
News 12 has reached out to Dietz's attorney for comment.
