Paterson unveiled Sunday its newly renovated Amistad Park.
New features include new benches, signs and sidewalks and a splash pad for the summer season.
The overhaul aims to change the park's previous role in the neighborhood as a magnet for crime.
"This park is part of our neighborhood preservation program. Unfortunately, this was a haven for drug activity, other types of crimes, so Paterson is taking this park back," said Mayor Andre Sayegh.
Amistad Park is on Vreeland Avenue and named after a legal case pivotal to the abolitionist movement.
