Surprise visits to four ICE detention facilities around the U.S. revealed “unsanitary conditions” – and one of those detention centers was in New Jersey.

New Jersey’s detention center in Newark was inspected, and the report listed that one, as well as a California detention center, as the worst facilities.
According to the report, the handling of the food situation in New Jersey’s detention center was so poor that the kitchen manager was replaced immediately.
The situation included improperly packaged raw and leaking meat.
Issues also included overflowing toilets and moldy shower stalls.
The violations were found over a seven-month period.
ICE has reported many fixes.
Facilities in Louisiana and Colorado also received surprise visits.
