A fire broke out just after 8 a.m. Friday at the Freehold Raceway Mall.
Freehold Township Fire Chief Craig Haas tells News 12 it started in a sneaker store called Sole Culture on the second level.
The sprinkler system activated and contained the fire to the one store. Mutual aid arrived shortly after and knocked down the fire within minutes.
Crews closed the vents, and smoke conditions are improving inside the mall.
Only a few employees were inside the mall at the time of the fire, and everyone got out safely.
Chief Craig Haas says there is damage to the sneaker store and some stores on the first floor from the water.
The cause of the fire is being determined by the Freehold Township Fire Department and Monmouth County Fire Marshall.
