Authorities say an off-duty West New York policeman was not reckless when he struck and killed a pedestrian.
Officer Jorge Salgado was driving to work when authorities say 27-year-old Guiltier Guicoy-Mutzutz ran onto Kennedy Boulevard late Monday night.
Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari says video shows Guicoy-Mutzutz was walking outside the crosswalk and wearing dark clothing. Officials say the officer had little time to react.
Officials say Salgado was driving two miles above the 25 mph speed limit and immediately stopped to help the man.
The pedestrian died the next day.
