Some beaches in Ocean County are back open after medical waste that washed up on the shore led to closures.
Just like Monmouth County saw last weekend, the closures only lasted a day as all beaches that were impacted reopened Thursday.
In fact, there are no closures at any Ocean or Bayside beaches in Monmouth and Ocean counties heading into the weekend.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, Normandy Beach faced the same situation that happened in Monmouth Beach and Long Branch when medical waste, including at-home type syringes, washed up on the shore following heavy rains and East winds.
The DEP says it came from a flushing of storm drains and sewer systems in the New York area from all the recent heavy rains.
The "floatables," as the DEP refers to the plastic trash, get carried into the New York Harbor before being blown on shore by the winds, officials say.
Ocean temperatures are in the comfortable mid-70s on Friday, which makes ideal for swimming, and all beaches are open for swimming.
Beachgoers who come across any medical waste items are urged to get a lifeguard as they have the proper measures to remove them.
