Two deadly shootings broke out in one Bronx neighborhood just hours apart late Tuesday into early Wednesday, according to the NYPD.
Rafael Vasquez, 32, has been identified by police as the victim of a shooting that happened Wednesday morning on East 180th Street.
Police arrived at the scene just after 7:30 a.m., where they found bullets scattered across the street.
News 12 crews spotted at least three cars that were also hit by gunfire. In between the two of them is where officers found Vasquez with gunshot wounds to his face and back. First responders rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but he did not survive.
That shooting unfolded just blocks away from another deadly shooting that happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Burnside Avenue. Police say 35-year-old Juan Lluverez was killed when a suspect rode up on a Citi Bike and fired three rounds.
No arrests have been made in either case, and residents in Mount Hope say the shootings are happening non-stop.
"We have been having so many shootings here in the Bronx and today, Wednesday, they continue. Every day we're having two or three shootings," said Sydney Flores, a community advocate in the neighborhood. "They have to throw away the keys on repeat offenders with these guns they have to throw away the keys."
Since late Sunday night, there have been at least six shootings across the Bronx, with eight people hit by bullets, three whom have died, according to police.
