Authorities say a man has been charged with arson for lighting fires behind two separate shopping centers in Ramsey earlier this month.
Bergen County prosecutors say 36-year-old Nicholas Todaro, of Orangeburg, New York, was arrested for intentionally lighting the fires on Jan. 5. They say both fires were lit in wooded areas behind the shopping centers only about 2 miles away from each other.
Officials say after they first responded to a call of a fire in the wooded area behind the shopping center on Spring Street. About 20 minutes later, officials said there was another report of a fire in the woods behind 8 Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey. Both fires were extinguished by the Ramsey Fire Department.
Todaro was charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated arson and two counts of third-degree arson. He is being held at the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance in Hackensack.
