North Bergen incumbent Mayor Nicholas Sacco has won his eighth term in office in this year’s mayoral race, defeating challenger businessman Larry Wainstein.
“Today was a day that goes down in history. I was shooting at 64% [of the vote], which we got four years ago, and we ended up with 69% of the vote,” Sacco says.
Sacco says that he has plans for a new school system for the city. He says that his opponent sued the city over a referendum that would allow this to happen. He says that now that he has been re-elected, it is time to go forward with the new system.
Sacco says that the city also has plans for a rec center, public library, as well as public parks.
