Authorities are investigating after an apparent noose was found outside a home in Fair Lawn.
They say a noose-like rope was found tied to a tree.
Mayor Kurt Peluso met with the family Sunday after they reported it to police on Saturday night.
Peluso spoke out a few months ago when members of the Proud Boys marched at a Trump rally in town. The Anti-Defamation League calls them white supremacists.
Peluso, who was born and raised in the area, says Fair Lawn is more diverse than ever.
"You have people within this community who love that diversity, the majority of them love it, they celebrate it, they think it makes their community better which it truly does. But you have a minority of people who hate it and they don't wanna diversify a community and they're fighting against it and we've seen this through their actions," he says.
He says police turned the rope over to county prosecutors.
