A new Web site in Trenton is helping working parents find the right specialized after-school program for their children.
New Jersey Afterschool Directory is a site for parents that lists more than 2,000 available programs statewide. The site was launched by the nonprofit group New Jersey After 3.
Busy moms and dads can type in their ZIP code to find nearby activities. From there, users can narrow their search down for specific details such as age range and types of activities.
All program entries are reviewed by New Jersey After 3 before they are posted, but the organization is unable to screen each one in person. Parents are advised to physically check out each place before signing a young one up.
Mothers like Rebecca Slater are fans of the directory because they can get a heads up on information like fees, licensing and transportation options as well.
"This helps you narrow it down ahead of time, and you can make phone calls about those top programs you are interested in," says Slater.
