1 dead as authorities investigate incident in Newark

One person is dead following an incident in Newark's West Ward on Thursday afternoon, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
The scene was near Littleton Avenue and South Orange Avenue, outside The Best Food Market. A News 12 crew at the scene observed 13 evidence markers near what appeared to be bullet casings outside the store.
Newark police and Essex County sheriff's officers were at the scene. Traffic was backed up in the area as authorities investigated.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed it is investigating but did not immediately provide additional details.
