A new intelligence center designed to track crime and respond to emergency situations statewide has just opened in New Jersey.
State police call the facility The ROIC, which stands for Regional Operations Intelligence Center. It is located on the grounds of the state police headquarters in West Trenton. New Jersey?s homeland security director says the center can gather information about terrorism, crime and emergency response in a very short period of time. A 32-by-12-foot screen can show live helicopter feeds and maps that pinpoint specific locations in the Garden State.
The building is named after Trooper Michael Lamonaco?s father, Phillip, who was killed in the line of duty in 1981. It is built to withstand 125-mph winds and a magnitude 5.5 earthquake.
