Gov. Jon Corzine helped break ground Thursday on the largest expansion in the history of the New Jersey Turnpike.
The turnpike will be widened to six lanes in each direction between interchanges 6 and 9. Construction should be visible in a month and last for five years.
The expansion carries a price tag of $2.7 billion and is expected to create or sustain 18,000 jobs. Construction will be paid for with turnpike tolls, not state or federal money.
