A group of New Jersey residents rallied to show solidarity with protesters in Baltimore.

Members of the People's Organization for Progress gathered Sunday afternoon at the Lincoln Monument in Newark. The group says the march was held to show its opposition to what it says is police brutality.

The organization says the march was planned after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, a black man who suffered spinal injuries while in police custody and later died.

The "Baltimore and New Jersey, Same Struggle, Same Fight" rally called for reforms to the criminal justice system. Organizers say one step forward was made last week, when Newark's mayor approved the city's first-ever civilian review board.

Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced Friday that six Baltimore police officers were charged in connection to Gray's death. The charges against them include second-degree murder and manslaughter.

On Sunday, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake lifted the city's 10 p.m. curfew, which was imposed after violent protests last Monday.
