A driver was charged in connection with a hit-and-run in Maplewood that left a cyclist seriously injured.
Police say the crash happened around 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 along Parker Avenue near Orchard Road. A bicyclist was struck by an SUV and dragged before the driver fled the scene. The victim suffered severe injuries and was rushed to University Hospital’s trauma center for treatment.
The incident shocked the community and intensified ongoing concerns about road safety. Neighbors and cyclists told News 12 they were alarmed that a driver could hit someone and keep going, with many pointing to speeding and unsafe conditions along Parker Avenue.
The driver now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, assault by auto and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury.
The victim remains in recovery.
