More than 1,400 small business owners across New Jersey are facing an expensive deadline. They have until Tuesday to spend thousands on new inspection equipment mandated by the state.
The Motor Vehicle Commission is requiring all private garages to purchase emissions-testing equipment in order to continue vehicle inspections.
State officials say modern equipment is a necessity for monitoring gas emissions. However, many small business owners are struggling to pay for that equipment when they're already dealing with a recession.
