Authorities say an Essex County man killed a woman after an argument and dismembered her remains to try to get rid of her body.
Prosecutors said Friday that 57-year-old James Edwards, of Newark, was charged this week with the November murder of 50-year-old Pamela Davis.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly says that Edwards allegedly got into a dispute with Davis before killing her.
Her decapitated remains were found in Newark in November, more than a week after her family reported her missing.
Edwards was charged with desecration of human remains in November and the charges were upgraded this week based on a medical examiner's findings. His bail was set at $500,000.
Davis's head has never been found, according to officials.
