STORM WATCH

Winter weather advisory issued for parts of New Jersey ahead of weekend snow.

When Newark police responded to reports of shots fired at the intersection of Avon and Hillside avenues shortly after 5:30 p.m. Friday, they found that a 12-year-old and a 23-year-old had been shot.
George Thomas says he heard the shots while he was in a Hillside Avenue barber shop getting a haircut. He came out and saw a little boy on the ground who had been hit. "I was sad because he was nothing but a little kid. He had his book bag laying next to him." He adds, "He had a gaping hole in his stomach and you could see the blood drenched his underwear and his shorts he had on."
Police say the 23-year-old man who was standing on the street corner was fired at eight times by another man who came out of a gray SUV. Police say, "We believe at this point the 23-year-old was the intended target. He's OK, we have him now and are interviewing him." The 23-year-old, shot in the arm, ran down the street to a Clinton Avenue cell phone store for help.
Both victims were taken to University Hospital. Police say their wounds appear to be non-life-threatening. No arrests have been made.
