A Newark Fire Department captain was hurt while fighting a fire inside a vacant home Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out inside the house around 3 p.m. on the 200 block of West End Avenue.
Officials say that the captain fell through the stairs on the first floor. He was taken to University Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
