A New York man has been charged with animal cruelty after a 6-month-old kitten was found doused with motor oil.
Kazem Shirinzad, 35, faces a number of charges in connection with the incident, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Authorities say that the kitten was discovered inside a box on May 16 outside a high-rise building on Palisades Avenue in Fort Lee. The box had been tied shut, and the cat was covered in motor oil.
The kitten was taken to the Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus and was cleaned and cared for.
The Bergen County SPCA eventually connected Shirinzad with the crime and arrested him. He is expected to appear in court in June.
The kitten, now known as "Olive," is at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro and is up for adoption. Anyone interested in adopting the cat or any other pet should contact the shelter at 201-229-4600.
