New York’s congestion pricing has been paused just weeks before the controversial plan was set to begin.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul directed the MTA to indefinitely pause the planned system that would have generated a projected $1 billion a year, citing it risks too many unintended consequences for New Yorkers. Opponents of the MTA's plan see this as a win in at least delaying the toll previously set to begin on June 30.
Some 400,000 commuters from the Garden State faced an upcharge of at least $15 to enter Manhattan on top of the toll. The pause throws the MTA's budget into uncertainty.
