(05/22/06) WEEHAWKEN ? Riders who utilize ferry service from New Jersey to Manhattan will soon depart in style thanks to a brand new Weehawken terminal.
The 31,000-foot terminal will open its doors to riders Tuesday morning. In addition to looking great, representatives from New York Waterway say future additions will offer riders a variety of services. Company officials say they are in negotiations with a major restaurant operator, a dry cleaner, a florist and a bank.
Both the federal government and New Jersey paid for the terminal?s $53 million cost. New York Waterway representatives hope the new complex will encourage commuters to get out of their car and onto the boat. While riders are happy about the new complex, they fear more riders will make a difficult parking situation even tougher.
