A new piece of equipment in Hoboken is helping to alleviate a decades-old problem.
The intersection of Ninth and Madison is an area known to flood during heavy rainstorms, especially when that rain falls during high tide.
"We obviously want to help protect residents and businesses from flash flood events," says Mayor Dawn Zimmer. "It's an ongoing process but I'm extremely proud to work with City Council to get funding, get a low interest loan from state, and to get projects done."
The new pump underground is now mostly covered with landscaping.
It's the second one of its kind in Hoboken. The other was installed years ago.
The mayor says it's part of an ongoing process to reduce flooding.
The North Hudson Sewerage Authority worked with the city to install and now maintain the new pump.
