A New Jersey state trooper is being credited with saving the life of an 8-month-old girl last weekend in Alexandria Township.

Officials say Trooper Benjamin Hockin was the first on the scene after the Kingwood Station troopers received a 911 call for an unconscious and unresponsive infant.

Hockin found 8-month-old Lila Wolfram unresponsive and not breathing, and immediately retrieved an automated external defibrillator (AED) from his patrol car and deployed it. The trooper continued CPR and delivering shocks from the AED until emergency medical units arrived.

Wolfram was taken to Hunterdon County Medical Center and was later transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery.

"Trooper Hockin's quick and decisive actions are a credit to him and the New Jersey State Police," said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. "There is nothing more rewarding or meaningful than to save a life. This is a memorable start to a bright and promising career."

Trooper Hockin graduated the 155th New Jersey State Police Recruit Class this past February.
