New Jersey residents feel the pain as gas prices rise multiple times

Pain at the pump rages on as the average price for a gallon of gas rises again in New Jersey.
The average price for a gallon now stands at $3.38, up 3 cents from Monday, up 10 cents from a week ago and up 16 cents from last month.
The problem is that this is the time of the year when gas prices usually drop.
There are different reasons for the price bump. But one person who does not have control over the price of gasoline is the gas station attendant.
“Either they think it’s my fault. They think it’s my boss’s fault. They have no idea what goes into the price of gas, so my job is to get yelled at all day,” says attendant Steven Roche.
Experts say that gas prices are rising because production was slowed during the pandemic and it is still trying to catch up to the increased demand.
Some are blaming President Joe Biden.
“If the president’s agenda is to build back better. Well to start that process you have to build. That’s the first B in ‘Build Back Better,’” says Michael Butler, with the Consumer Energy Alliance.
Biden canceled the Keystone Pipeline project. It is the type of project that environmental groups hate. But some say that it could have helped the United States rely less on the global energy supply chain.
A similar project recently died in New Jersey. Both Democrats and Republicans were against it.
"There's really no reason for New Jersey to have to pay this much in energy. You could be getting natural gas in Pennsylvania, but unfortunately these pipeline projects keep getting blocked,” says Butler says.
Meanwhile, business owners like Jashawn Anderson are driving an extra 15 minutes to find better gas prices.
“We’re definitely feeling it,” he says.
News 12 New Jersey will continue to track gas prices around the Garden State.
