A historic New Jersey business is celebrating 130 years of operating in the Garden State.

General Pencil Company makes high-quality drawing and school pencils. The company has operated out of Jersey City since 1889 and has been at its current location in Jersey City Heights for almost 100 years.

“We're really, really proud to be sharing our story today…to bring some awareness and excitement to both the pencil as a creative product, but also all the people working here to make these pencils,” says CEO Katie Weissenborn Vanoncini. “We have the most wonderful people working here in Jersey City."

The company has been owned and operated by the Weissenborn family since the company started.
