Organ donation groups may soon face less red tape as they try to find donors for more than 4,000 New Jersey residents. When applying for a driver?s license in New Jersey, residents are asked if they would like to become an organ donor. That list of donors is not made available to local donation groups due to privacy and security concerns. On Monday, however, a bill allowing open access to the list was passed by a Senate committee. Officials from the Motor Vehicle Commission say they support the open access, which would be available in real-time 24 hours a day. Donation groups say one donor can save up to eight lives and help up to 50 others through tissue use. The bill will now head to the full Senate for a vote.
