It turns out that there apparently wasn't a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard this morning -- but police don't believe the report was a hoax.
They say they've interviewed the woman who reported that she may have heard gunshots. Washington's police chief says authorities regularly tell people that if they see something they should say something -- and that's what this woman did.
Police swarmed the Navy Yard this morning after the report of the possible shooting, and the base was locked down.
The reports of gunfire triggered a large response in keeping with protocols established after a gunman killed 12 workers in a 2013 massacre.
