With schools closed until at least May 15 across the state, it can be a challenging time for children with autism due to the sudden changes to their daily routines.
A music therapist from New Jersey says that therapy sessions for children and adults with autism can be effective even when done online.
Jennifer Pacht-Goodman says that she has seen the difference the one-on-one sessions can make in the life of a student with autism.
“It’s about finding an interpersonal connection, building on skills and helping that person have a moment where they’re making a meaningful connection,” Pacht-Goodman says.
Pacht-Goodman has private sessions, but also offers a free, half-hour group sessions to any of her Instagram followers through Instagram Live. She says that she hopes it helps children and parents alike.
“When you look at children with special needs – those parents have been turned upside down,” she says.
Pacht-Goodman says that she plans her “Jammin’ Jenn” therapy sessions with a wide range of students in mind to help them with behavior, speech and cognition.
“I really touch upon almost every single age group from 2-year-olds to adults,” she says.
The sessions are Saturdays at 10 a.m. on Pacht-Goodman’s Instagram. She also offers a free 15-minute virtual one-on-one session.
