A Bergen County museum is set to honor New Jersey poet, Dr. William Carlos Williams.
Dr. Williams was not only a published poet and playwright, but also an accomplished doctor that delivered many babies in the Garden State in the early 20th century.
The Meadowlands Museum in Rutherford wants to honor not just Williams and his work, but also the babies he delivered at his practice. The staff is putting the word out for anyone who may have been delivered by the doctor between 1900 and 1950.
"Dr. William Carolos Williams is not just a pediatrician. He is also one of the most revered poets of the 20th Century," says the museum's interim director Gilda Healy. "In between appointments, he would sit at the typewriter and would type up his poetry. He would also use his prescription pads to make notes about what he wanted to write poetry about."
Dr. Williams was awarded the poet laureate after his death in 1963.
So far, the museum has been contacted by 13 people delivered by Dr. Williams, but they are hoping to find more. Anyone who believes they have a connection with Dr. Williams can reach out to the museum at its website.
A special reception will be held later this month to honor Dr. Williams and the children he delivered.
