Gov. Phil Murphy announced $250 million in federal CARES Act funding will go to help families with child care costs during the pandemic.
Murphy made the announcement Friday at the Edgar Child Care Center in Metuchen.
The program will help care for children ages 5 through 13 through the end of 2020.
"No matter how super human parents are, it's just incredibly challenging, if not impossible, to work from home, or be at your essential job in a grocery store, or a hospital, or in a child care center and teach your kids during the day," said Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson.
Funding will also be available to help the state's 6,000 child care centers reopen safely amid the pandemic.
