The 2-year-old law requires drivers to switch lanes or slow down when police or emergency vehicles are pulled over in the shoulder.
The South Brunswick Police Department has set up a scenario with a police car and tow truck stopped in the shoulder. Anyone who doesn't move over or slow down will be pulled over and given a warning.
Five hundred warnings have been issued already. Next week, police will start handing out $120 tickets.
