NYPD: Officers' badge, guns removed following chaotic arrest inside Boerum Hill Liquor store

A chaotic arrest attempt was captured on camera inside a liquor store in Boerum Hill on Tuesday.
In a video obtained by News 12 that goes on for nearly eight minutes, one can see a man punched and kicked repeatedly by two officers.
It happened inside Brooklyn Wine Depot Corp. located at 214 Hoyt St. just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
After the initial struggle the two officers can be seen on top of the man instructing him to place his hands behind his back.
Blood can be seen on the floor of the store. The man was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Abelee Moran recorded as she watched in horror.
"Everybody is saying I'm a hero, but I am feeling mad at myself that I didn't throw my body against him to protect this man," said Moran.
Police say the officers were narcotic detectives who were in there for an undercover drug operation and looking for someone with green shorts and a white shirt. Police have now confirmed the man in the video was not that person.
"The whole situation, whether or not he was guilty of whatever happened, it wasn't the right way he was handled," said Moran.
News 12 has learned the man has 32 stitches, a broken nose and is getting an MRI to check for a brain injury. People rallied outside the liquor store today including Hawk Newsome, co-founder of Black Lives Matter New York .
"Imagine beating someone so mercilessly and being caught on camera and you have the bravado to keep going," said Newsome.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch released a statement on X, confirming that the officers are now on modified duty.
Tisch says the officers are being modified and had their guns and badges removed.
"This matter is under internal review by our Internal Affairs Bureau. We'll have more to say about it as that investigation unfolds. I understand the community interest in it because it is an upsetting video," said Tisch.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has also released a statement confirming the investigation, saying the actions of the officers as “disturbing” and “unacceptable.”
Police say the man was charged with resisting arrest, but a spokesperson with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office tells News 12 those charges will be dropped.
