Plans to defund Planned Parenthood drew more than 50 people to a rally outside Rep. Mike Lawler's office.
Many in the crowd wore pink and voiced concern that the proposed budget bill could threaten access to services such as cancer screenings and birth control.
"It puts at risk nearly 200 Planned Parenthood health centers across this nation, 90% of which are in states like New York that have access to abortion," said Alexis McGill Johnson, CEO of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. "So they did nothing less than pass a backdoor abortion ban."
A spokesperson for the congressman did not address the concerns raised by demonstrators but said Lawler denounces extremist factions who have disrupted earlier events and used tactics aimed at encouraging violence against the congressman and his staff.
