Montclair police have arrested the person they believe is responsible for a smash-and-grab burglary earlier this year.
Police say 20-year-old Jalen Dorch, of Newark, was arrested in Union Township on Monday. They say Dorch broke into the Chicken & Shawarma Express on Bloomfield Avenue in the early hours of Feb. 28 and stole $210 from the register.
Police say Dorch also tried to break into Sofia’s Pizzeria on Orange Road that same day but was not successful.
“We recognize the emotional and financial toll these crimes can take on the business owners. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the residents, businesses and visitors to Montclair,” Police Chief Todd Conforti wrote in a statement.
Dorch was charged with burglary, attempted burglary and criminal mischief.
